Hey! I’m Catherine, a 28 year old Wanderlust runner living in Northern California. I started running in middle school on the track and cross country teams. My dad entered me in my first race and I had no idea what I was doing; I ran it in jeans! I continued running in high school while I pursued other competitive sports in high school and college. When my mom passed away from cancer in 2016, I struggled really badly with depression. There were days I didn’t want to get out of bed.
Eventually I started taking daily walks to get outside. I walked at least 6 miles every day. These walks gave me time to process my feelings, and the more I got outside to walk, the better I felt.
I’ve always had to live up to my brothers and their accomplishments. I have one brother who has raced in the Boston Marathon and another who has successfully completed several Iron Mans. Everyone kept asking when it was my turn to run a race. I had mentioned the idea of running a marathon to my mom, and she always supported me. After losing her and starting to run again, I decided to run a marathon in her honor. I know she would be cheering me on at the finish line.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. I blog at Catherine Chicotka about fashion, beauty, and travel. Clearly travel is also another passion of mine. I decided to create a blog dedicated to running and fitness, as it didn’t mix well with my other blog (you’re welcome!). That’s how the Wanderlust Runner was created!
My goal is to inspire people to achieve their fitness dreams and share my love of running. I hope to run races in every state in the United States, and in different countries around the world. I’m so excited you’re here and I hope you join me on this journey!
